Boosting Safety for Boom Lift:-

Articulated and telescopic boom lift can be very helpful in accessing difficult locations for jobs such as maintenance, construction and emergency response. Safety precautions to be taken to keep the boom lift function running smoothly. If your company operates boom lifts or works with boom lifts in the future, here are some tips for making them work safely or around it.

 1. Be aware of one’s surroundings: Whether running elevation elevates you or works nearby, staff should be careful not to cause accidents. Just like driving a truck or car, running a boom lift requires attention to what is going on. For example, if operating a boom lift near hydro lines, one must be aware of the lines and be extremely careful to prevent electrocution (in this case a distance of 3 meters (10-feet) between the machine and the lines.

 2. Do not overload the elevator: Most boom lifts are equipped with overweight sensors and will not lift if you exceed the safety limit. If the sensor is not overweight, the high load will sensitize the operating system. Carrying small loads (below the weight limit stated on the system) is best even with some extra travel.

3. Make sure the boom lift is properly inspected: If you are authorized to inspect the machine, check that all parts are working properly and that the lift has sufficient power before use. Also, check for any leaks and treat them accordingly. If the lift is not properly inspected, malfunction can occur.

 4. Wear a saddle: To avoid falling off the platform, wear a saddle and secure it to the safety rail. The guard rail is designed to keep you on the platform, but wearing a saddle can save your life in the event of strong winds.

5. Look for falling objects: If you work below the elevator, always be aware of objects that may fall to the ground (including tools, equipment and debris). Hear any warnings from the lift operator and act quickly to avoid being hit if you are in the path of the object.

6. Do not lean on guard rails: Even if you are wearing a saddle, you can get out of the basket if you are leaning or hanging on the safety rails. If you can’t reach anything, adjust the lift position and height accordingly. (This means you should not use ladders or anything else for extra height.) Remember, in addition to the tips provided here, it is essential that the government and the manufacturer’s safety standards are followed at all times when operating the Boom lift.
